Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.

that's the title of the book i'm reading now. it's by Jonathan Safran Foer. i quite like it, because the language's beautiful and there are interesting dialogue. the main character is this boy called Oskar Schell, who (in my opinion) is a little Christopher Boon-ish. he even has a namecard! and he describes his feelings with the weight of his boots; cute.

so anyways, let me tell you the Horrors of Yesternight.

i was happily using the computer when i heard a buzz. i hate buzzes, especially insect-buzzes. because 1) it means it's a big insect and 2) the big insect can fly. buzzes at home are usually beetles and when i looked up, i saw a beetle. at a distance, of course. still, i screamed.

such a sight is so common that my parents no longer feel the urge to rush into my room with a concerned or anxious "What happened?". in fact, i don't think they'll react if i got kidnapped and screamed my head off.

so, my annoying brother came to the rescue and offered to help me chase the beetle away. obviously, i don't believe in mercy for insects, even though they might have feelings and a family. so i grabbed the thickest book i've got in my room (New Moon) and stood by as my brother encircled the beetle with a piece of tissue.

we waited for the damned beetle to land on the floor stably before my brother placed the tissue over it and i finished it off with a loud BANG! of dropping New Moon above it.

the beetle probably didn't die because of it's annoying exoskeleton, but what my brother don't know, wouldn't hurt him. "go, pick it up and throw it out of the window. quick!"

so you see, i hate insect encounters in my room because it doesn't only mean that i have to become a cold-blooded murderer, i have to killer-litter. stupid insects.

so after the horrible ordeal, i went to the kitchen and treated myself to some iced honey.

returned to my room and OHMYGOSH, AHHHHHHHHHHH! I SPY WITH MY BEAUTIFUL EYE.... A STINKY, SMELLY, DISGUSTING, GROSS, IDIOTIC LIZARD!!!

(pardon the overwhelming capitalized letters, but they are absolutely necessary.)

i almost fainted from the sight and shock of it all.

so emotionally draining, i tell you. the fear which grips your heart everytime the stupid thing moves. and it isn't as if lizards move s l o w l y. they move in bolts of lightning.

shew! shew! shew!

and you lose sight of it.

and then you have to go through the psychological process of locating the stupid lizard.

it was stuck behind my bedside cupboard.

so there i was, standing on my bed, screaming once everytime i see the lizard move. or when i don't, shouting orders for my brother.

finally, after what seemed to be hell, we got the lizard into a open space and screamed for my mom to come finish it up.

she was reluctant, but i kept on shouting for her that she eventually emerged annoyed from her bedroom. hahaha. so the poor lizard got it from her. i mean, everybody needs to vent their frustrations somewhere, right? :D

and thus concludes the Horrors of Yesternight. it was no surprise that i fell asleep the moment my head came in contact with my pillow.

i missed half an hour of my liver detox, though. because being the nice big sister i always was, i was helping my sister with her history. she had a test and i taught her how history has to be memorised. being a total newbie at history, i gave her some tips on how to memories and highlight and summarise points.

finally, at 1133PM, she finally got it all covered. we were both completely exhausted. and that was also when she broke it to me.

sis: yes! finally. i better not fail the test this time.
me: no la, you won't. not after memorising so much. you better get an A1 or else!
sis: but the last test was so difficult! they gave me a picture and then a passage and i didn't even know how to answer it.
me: (turns to her slowly) picture? passage? ...sources?
sis: yar yar! source A and source B!
me: (screams in frustration) mei! that's SBQ! you don't even have to memorise so much for SBQ! (cries for my liver)

oh hey! i just realised that this is already a long post in itself, yet i'm not done with what i want to blog about. goody. maybe my blogging bugs are coming back to me. :D

so, i read cheryl's blog and she reminded me about the whole HSM craze. especially so since i heard from sze that HSM was on channel 5 yesterday night. i don't know why, but i felt so proud for HSM, for Disney Channel. i felt especially proud of the HSM cast because i've been watching Road to High School Musical 2 episodes and it feels as if i know them in person. it's all so weird.

anyways, HSM2 is released in America on the 17th of August. but unfortunately for us Singaporeans, it'll only be out in september. i suppose you people can watch it on youtube, along with the HSM weekend marathon thingamajig. but i'll watch it on big screen, thank you very much. i don't think i'd be that crazy about HSM2 as much as i was about HSM. it just seems like an inappropriately childish thing to do. or maybe i'm just growing up and changing?
